Denbigh Harriers is a small club which is proud of its friendliness. We meet regularly in Denbigh and when daylight allows we mostly train off-road, using the plentiful Public Footpaths around Denbigh. We sometimes run on the beautiful Clwydian range. We call Fridays the “social run” as we take thing a bit easier. Weekends, you’ll find a lot of us racing… but it’s not obligatory, we all come together to run for the love of it.

We usually meet at the Denbigh Leisure centre:

Monday 6.30pm – Progression Group: A session for those who want to develop their running after completing a Run for Fun/Couch to 5k programme.

Tuesday 6.30pm – Speed or hill session: In the summer these are on grass and in winter on local roads with street lighting.

Friday 6.00pm – Social Run: A run on footpaths in spring, summer and early autumn which is paced at the speed of the slowest runner. In winter the runs will be on local roads with street lighting.

Sunday 9.30pm – Clwydian Hill run: We meet in different locations to run in small groups based on ability and inclination on our local hills.

We have a mix of longstanding and new members of all ages (20 to 80!) who are interested in all aspects of and types of running. We run 2-3 couch to 5k courses a year with over 100 participants completing the programme to date and we’ve qualified 16 club members as run leaders, including 4 who have come to the club from the Run For Fun programme.

We also run a successful trail race at local Llyn Alwen  attended by participants from all over the UK.

Why should you join Denbigh Harriers? Well in the words of our members…

“I have been in a few clubs over the years, not just running, but climbing, kayaking and even chess. If I had to choose a favourite then it would be Denbigh Harriers.”

Vic,  a fell runner for over 30 years, Harrier for 8 years

“With a membership fee of only £27 and at £2 off affiliated races for only 12.5 races in a year that’s your membership fee paying for itself. But at the Harriers you get so much more – Tuesday night training – those who come to this session know I’m always at the back but I see my speed and ability improving every week. There are free club races like our summer handicap series where anyone can win.

There is a wealth of information, experience and opportunity at the club. Since joining, I’ve tried cross country, trail and fell racing and I’ve even recently completed the Snowdonia Marathon. I regularly ask members for advice on training plans and nutrition and there is always company for a run. I feel really supported and motivated by being part of a great team.”
