Emma Collins continues to dominate her VF55 category as Harriers out in force for new Bodelwyddan Parkrun

It’s fast and flat and a great place to get a PB. Ellesmere Port Running Club 5k took place on a warm Thursday evening with 4 Harriers taking to the starting line and quick was certainly the order of the day. Craig Jones was first Harrier home in 42nd and 18:23. His second fastest recorded 5k as he continues to get closer to being a sub 18 minute 5k runner. It’s only a matter of time.

The outstanding run of the day goes to Emma Collins coming in 117th, 15th Lady and 1st VF55 in 21:00. Before the race Emma was hoping for sub-22 mins as she recorded her fastest 5k in 3 years. She also beat all the VF50 women across the line and most of the VF45 category too finishing 46 places  and 1 min 51 seconds ahead of the 2nd placed lady in her category. She’s truly in a league of her own.

Father and son Fred and Paul Jones made up the foursome with Fred putting in another consistent performance in 166th, 7th VM60 and 22:55. Paul has only recently taken up running and put in a fantastic performance smashing his recent parkrun performances in 26:33.

In another fast race on Sunday Shaun Hughes took to the start line of the Birchwood 10k representing Denbigh Harriers and North Wales in the Inter-County competition. A wet morning saw Shaun finish 18th in 35:43, his 2nd fastest recorded time over the distance.

The inaugural Bodelwyddan parkrun took place on Saturday with an impressive 208 turning up and among them 11 Harriers, 9 racing with Menai Baugh and Andy Morris volunteering. Billed as good training for cross-country, the course incorporates trails around Bodelwyddan Castle with a great deal of climb and a few challenging sections.

Shaun Hughes in his first run of the weekend was 3rd in 18:28 and only 10 seconds off his Conwy parkrun PB for this much tougher course. It’s good to see Vic Belshaw back and taking 16th in 21:31. David Baugh was 31st in 23:29 with Paul Goffey 52nd in 25:27. First of the ladies home was Elen Baugh in 63rd & 10th Lady in 26:07 followed by Mari Williams 81st 27:37 and Sarah Bayliss 83rd & 17th Lady 27:46. Also finishing strongly on this tough course were Robert Parry 101th 30:00, Nicola Field 134th & 39th Lady 32:54.

Parkruning elsewhere this weekend were Chris Baldwin taking 54th and 2nd VM60 in 24:15 in his first run at Dalby Forest parkrun. Duncan Jones ran for the second time at Shrewsbury where he finished6 3rd and 3rd VM55 in a course PB of 22:13.
