LEIGHT OF FOOT AT THE SLATERS 5
5th November 2006
A fine turnout of 10 Harriers dashed along the seafront at the Slater's Abergele 5 mile race on Sunday. The fact that it was the North Wales 5 mile Championship is a reflection of the excellent organization of this event. 196 runners participated, from a wide range of North Wales and borders clubs.

Paul Ballinger led the merry band to the finish coming 39th in a time of 32.03. The rest of the team out of a field of just under 200 runners performed with style to achieve the following results: 49th David A Jones 33.08 (and 2nd in the MV55 age group), 70th Duncan Jones 34.31, 79th Ken Jones 35.02, 84th Martyn Fairlamb 35.17, 93rd Tracey Williams 36.01 (and 3rd in FV40 age group), 105th Keith Humphries 36.51, 132nd Maureen Bartley 39.45, 144th Sarah Bayliss 41.11,146th and Ron Birch 41.32. A QUIET OCTOBER - RECHARGING THE BATTERIES
Apart from the superb turn out of 19 Harriers at the Telford Cross Country (21st October - see report on the Bulletin Board) there has been little activity elsewhere of note.

ANGLESEY MARATHON
24th September 2006
The day started off cool and damp – perfect for distance running.  However Anglesey’s sunny climes threatened to conspire against marathon first-timer, Geraint Dodd, as it gradually got warmer and sunnier, until by the time he reached the final killer (uphill) three miles, it was a day much more suited to spectating then competing.  He refused to let it beat him though and came home in an excellent 3:47:11, in 72nd place overall.  Well done Geraint!

Maureen Bartley chose the softer option and did the 10K in 52:24, a PB.  We hope Colin Jackson was suitably impressed!

HALF MARATHONS GALORE
10th September 2006
Half as dozen Harriers tackled half marathons on the same day in mid-Wales and in Yorkshire. INTO THE EYE OF THE STORM
3rd September 2006

THE BATTLE OF THE BRENIG
2nd September 2006
Normally a scenic pleasant nine mile jog round Llyn Brenig this year's race was transformed by a howling gale which made the final crossing of the reservoir dam a real battle with the elements with some runners feeling that they'd come close to being blown into the water!

Denbigh Harriers did well with Annemarie Allen and Martin Cortvriend successfully navigating the course to win their respective age group awards. Details as follows 8th Martin Cortvriend (61.35), 27th Paul Ballinger (68.10), 43rd Keith Humphreys (75.54), 48th Annemarie Allen (76.36), 58th Steve Bell (79.29) and 72nd Eleri Jones (89.40). This is a unique race with a very special atmosphere and all Denbigh Harriers should consider it at some point before they hang up their running shoes for the last time.

Caroline Page contunes to go at it hammer and tongs and ran 3 races in 3 days in July namely the Robin Hood Fell race in Derbyshire on the 25th, the race in Llangynhafal on the 26th and the Birchall off-road race in Staffordshire on the 27th where she was joined by her husband, and new Denbigh Harrier, Julian Page recording 137th (51.19) and 143rd (52.57) respectively. HOT, HOT, HOT AT THE TOP OF DENBIGH
2nd July 2006
With car thermometers recording over 30 degrees on a sweltering, hot and humid day fast times were not going to be achieved on the hilly 10K course at Denbigh. Running through the country lanes to the south west of town the heat was reflected off the road and held still by the hedges and a winning time of 37.31 from Darren Blazier of Abergele Harriers was an indication of how tough this course is. Darren got below 35 minutes earlier this year at the Nick Beer race at the Great Orme in Llandudno which is generally held to be one of the hardest 10K's around.
10 Denbigh Harriers competed and aquitted themselves well with Annemarie Allen and Ron Birch both winning trophies. Menai Baugh won a prize for second over 45.

Thanks are due to all those who gave up the opportunioty to run to help with the race organisation and marshalling, thanks also to the Army Cadets who assisted with finishing area and drinks and to all the runners especially the crack team from Abergele! Full results here.
