There is a bug in the bulletin board that I have not been able to resolve, despite considerable research. I'd hoped the upgrade would resolve it. Sadly it hasn't.

Sometimes users log in successfully, but then find that they still appear to be logged out. It may be a browser specific problem.

The solution to this is simple. After logging in you will see a notice saying login was successful and you will then be taken to the board. If you appear to be not logged in, hit the browser's refresh button and that will correct the fault.
